Being an investigative journalist, I decided to investigate how Krystyna Knypl M.D., Ph.D. realized her second career in medical journalism and literacy in her sixties. After many years of medical practice, she felt more and more that she can create larger written forms than reimbursed prescriptions (exposing her medical retirement to the sponsorship of the National Health Fund) with typical instructions for patients that they should take tablets three times a day. In 2000 she decided to follow such famous predecessors as Arthur Conan Doyle or Mikhail Bulgakov and emigrate from the land of medicine to journalism  literature.

It was a decision to emigrate to a completely different, sunny world - well illustrated by a photo taken by Krystyna in Tipase, Algeria

When Krystyna Knypl turned 60 in 2005, she decided to pursue a second career as a medical journalist while maintaining her active medical license, carefully fulfilling the obligation of postgraduate continuous training( more https://www.gazeta-dla-lekarzy.com/index.php/51-artykuly-redaktor-naczelnej/1979-punkty-edukacyjne)

Shortly after her 60th birthday in January, Krystyna participated in April 2005 in the Congress of the Interamerican Society of Hypertension where she presented three posters.

Her journalistic career began 2 months later in 2005. At the age of 60, she made her international debut as an accredited medical journalist at the Congress of the American Society of Hypertension in San Francisco. After the congress, she took a trip to Muir Woods, a national sequoia park in California. She liked the fact that sequoias live long and grow tall.

Krystyna decided to be like a sequoia

Tamara  met on the trip, encouraged her to deepen her English language skills (Latin, German and Russian were learned during her school and university years). Browsing through the offers, Krystyna found the Acadia Center for English Immersion, which accepted students of all ages, and the oldest participant at this school was 72 years old.

At 61 y/o Krystyna completed a specialist exam in hypertensiology, which had just been introduced. She had previously obtained the European Society of Hypertension specialist title. In December 2005, she attended the European Society for Sexual Medicine, in Copenhagen.
Being a supporter of the third-time lucky principle – after many years of love affairs with medicine and writing Krystyna decided to take up photography. Her passion started out photographing her loved ones and after a few years, she decided to pursue also other topics such as everyday life in Poland, travels, nature, and medical conferences worldwide.

Krystyna at 65 years of age received an honorable mention in the Lonely Planet competition ( - her photo butterfly on orange ground photographed during the walk to the Iguazu Fallas, which she visited as a single traveler to Iguazu Falls after the World Congress of Cardiology) and was nominated for Henri Cartier-Bresson Award (2015).

Krystyna emphasizes that she is a doctor, but has never been (and will never be) a healthcare provider. We live in a global age and it is important to move with the times. With this career decision, Krystyna can continue her attractive global second career.
